Welcome to Kristin's NY 3-Day Pledge Page!

Hello!

Thank you for visiting my site! I am really excited about taking part in the challenge of the Avon 3-Day in NY. I have never done anything like this before. It may seem a little crazy to want to walk 60 miles in 3 days - rain or shine, sleep in a tent on the hard ground, to have to use porta-potties (this may be the hardest part for me!), and to raise a minimum of $1,900.00 (my goal is to raise $2,500.00). But after hearing some of the facts about breast cancer this seems like a minor task.

Important facts:
- The one staggering fact that really gets me is that a woman has a 1 in 8 chance of developing breast cancer in her life. The chance of knowing that person is 100%. Men can also develop this disease.

- 1,000,000 women in America are living with undetected breast cancer.

- In America, this year, a new case of breast cancer will be diagnosed every 3 minutes. Every 13 minutes, the disease will claim another life.

- The survival rate for patients treated for early stage breast cancer is 96%. This is what makes awareness and education very crucial. The Avon Crusade is dedicated to funding medical research and clinical care; a national financial assistance program for medically underserved women who need breast biopsies and support services; advocacy training; community-based breast health programs and more (visit www.avoncrusade.com for more details.)

- Last year, there were nine 3-day walks in the US, which raised $45.1 million in net proceeds. This year, 13 walks are scheduled in different cities throughout the US; so the amount raised this year will definitely exceed last year's totals!

My reasons:
I have been very fortunate in my life, for the fact that I have not had to experience losing any one I know personally to this disease. But the fact that knowing someone with cancer is 100% - that could a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, best friend. Hopefully, the little bit that I am doing can make a difference in someone's life.

After the tragic events that shocked our nation on September 11th, I like many others in our nation felt extremely helpless. It has made me determined more than ever to do something that will make a difference. The walk is something that I can do to help find a cure and to help the other women and their families.

How to help:
- No amount is too small to donate every little bit makes a difference!
I am donating $2.50 per mile to the cause = $150.00
- Please go to the link for "online donation" or contact me and I can send you a form. Enter my number walker #2852, so that I will get credit for your donation.
